How I Use Chat GPT as My Personal Design Consultant

For the past six months, I’ve been creating what I call our Everyday Oasis—turning our home and yard into a place that feels calmer, more beautiful, more useful, and more like us.

Along the way, I discovered something I wasn’t really expecting:

ChatGPT has become my design consultant.

Not because I want someone—or something—to design my home for me. I actually enjoy designing things myself. What I sometimes need is another set of eyes.

You know that feeling when you’ve looked at the same corner of your house for so long that you can’t see it anymore?

You know you don’t like it. You know something needs to change. But you can’t quite figure out what.

That’s where ChatGPT has been surprisingly helpful.

The Corner That Started It

I had a corner of our living room that bothered me.

There wasn’t necessarily anything wrong with the individual things in it. In fact, I liked most of them. But together, the corner looked cluttered and unfinished.

So instead of going shopping for new furniture or spending hours moving everything around, I took a picture.

I uploaded the photograph to ChatGPT and basically asked:

“How can I simplify this corner but upgrade it?”

What came back surprised me.

ChatGPT created a visual using the things I already had, but with fewer items, better placement, and a cleaner overall look.

It wasn’t asking me to buy an entirely new room.

It helped me see my own room differently.

And then I simply copied what I saw.

BEFORE.          –               AFTER a little AI-assisted reimagining.

Your Oasis May Already Be There

That little corner of my living room taught me something.

Sometimes we don’t need more stuff, more money, or a complete makeover. Sometimes we just need a fresh pair of eyes — and perhaps a little help imagining what could be.

That’s what I’m discovering as we create our Everyday Oasis. I’m looking at the things we already have, the spaces we already live in, and asking one simple question:

Could this be better?

Sometimes the answer means moving something. Sometimes it means removing something. Sometimes it means trying an idea that I never would have thought of on my own.

And sometimes, apparently, it means asking AI.

I’m still learning. I’m still experimenting. And not every idea is going to work.

But that’s part of the fun.

Because your oasis doesn’t have to look like mine. It doesn’t have to cost a fortune. It just has to make your everyday life a little better.

And sometimes, it’s been sitting there all along — just waiting for you to see it differently.
